Packing the Car
04:23
|
|||
Cold morning air
Cold morning mist
Calm morning stillness greets me
Slow to awake
Slow to get going
Slow to shake morning lethargy
Sip my coffee and
Wait for the fog to clear
get up early
with the dawn
load the car up
hit the road
Warm up the car
Turn on the tunes
Signal, turn out of the driveway
Sip my coffee
Head for the highway
get up early
with the dawn
load the car up
hit the road
Did you lock the back door
Did I turn off the stove
Did we check the lights and windows
Are we turning around
Did you pack the flashlight
Did I check on the spare
Do we have maps and space blankets
Are we ready
get up early
with the dawn
load the car up
hit the road
Clouds up ahead
Clouds turning grim
Storm clouds open and release
Pull over and
Wait for those clouds to pass
get up early
with the dawn
load the car up
hit the road
bags all ready
luggage stowed
get up early
hit the road

green leaves
fallen trees
burnt bark
charcol stump
new growth
poking through
the brush along the highway
tires spin
engine hum
tires crunch
wipers swish
more cars
rushing by
vibrations on the highway
Billboards
save your soul
folk-art
stop to look
U-pick
attractions odd
For sale along the highway
Rock face
blasted clean
white shrine
Memories
Young love
Cry for help
Spray painted on the highway
sharp turn
up ahead
slow down
watch for moose
Don't pass
last chance for fuel
Along this barren highway

Red Twist
01:44
|
|||
It's been a long day, been a long drive
flicker of a neon sign, stop for the night
try and catch the diner before they close
flop down on the bed, clothes on the chair
flip through the drawers, notebooks and bibles,
and things overlooked
beam from the street lamp, casts a red glow
Warm from the shower
I drift off
